Have you ever found yourself with your nose pressed to the screen on your phone trying to navigate a retailer’s store locator for opening hours or contact details? Having had that experience on numerous occasions, the founders of Dublin based start-up Localmint have built an app and website that addresses this problem.
Product
Localmint publishes all the leading retailer’s store details like opening hours, geo locations and contact details in a standardised format that consumers can search really quickly from any device via the company’s apps or website. The user is only two taps away from the store information they are looking for, because Localmint enables them to search in really intuitive ways. For example, a consumer searching via their phone can locate all the nearby supermarkets with one tap, or if they prefer a particular brand they can get results only for that brand.
The team, headed up by Ranga Vadhineni and Oisin Ryan, already have nearly 1 million consumers using the service each month across Ireland, the UK and Australia, while a US version is currently being rolled out. As Ryan explains, “We save consumers the frustration of navigating clunky retail store locators on their phone, or worse still showing up at a store only to witness the shutters being pulled down.”

Background
Localmint recently completed the LaunchPad accelerator programme in the National Digital Research Centre based in Dublin’s Digital Hub. Vadhineni actually started the website as a hobby in 2012, but having met Ryan at a “Meet a Co-Founder” event in August 2013 the founders decided to commit full-time to the project in December, when traffic reached 1 million unique monthly users for the first time.
Future Plans
The team are currently developing social features to enable users to share store and product recommendations to friends with store details attached, as well as some other really innovative features built around their mapping functionality.
They are also seeking funding of around EUR500k to accelerate their international expansion and product development, so if there is anyone out there with deep pockets please get in touch.
