So you have reached the age when you have finally given up on playing in the Premiership or joining a boy band. That age may be 23 for some or north of 30 for others, but either way you may (should?) now feel that certain styles are no longer appropriate (e.g. skinny jeans or anything with metal bits other than buttons and zips). This list of the best places to buy men’s jeans will hopefully be of help in your search for the perfect pair of jeans.

1. Genius Menswear

It may be partly out of the feel good factor I get by nominating a local independent store that has earned Genius top spot, but I don’t think so. Genius earns its place at the top of this list by using a very simple equation: stock the right jeans and employ people who know what they’re talking about.

It is a little pricey, but you are likely to be walking out of here with a pair of Diesel or G-Star jeans in your bag, so top dollar is an unfortunate side effect. I like to think their staff don’t sell you “a” pair of jeans. They sell you “the” pair of jeans that suit you best! Always worth a visit.

2. BT2

If you have plenty of cash and like to look good, BT2 is the place to go, but note that only BT2 on Grafton Street stock men’s jeans. For those not in the know BT2 is Brown Thomas’ sister store that is focused on a slightly younger market than their department stores. As you might suspect, it is a little pricey, but you can be sure you are being presented with the latest trends and quality brands. Brands stocked include Diesel, Armani Jeans, G-Star and Selected.

diesel

3. Diesel (the Irish one)

First things first. It is not Diesel as created by Renzo Rossi — not sure how they get away with that. But it is a good shop and not too pricey. I have rarely walked into a Diesel store without being tempted to buy something. They generally stock a nice mix of classics and whatever is the flavour of the season, so there is something here for everyone.

4. Jack & Jones

I’m not sure who Jack & Jones are/were, but they certainly knew how to put a shop together. I want to get in and get out of a shop without having to search for anything and they make that easy. They always stock a nice mix of old reliable cuts and washes, alongside more fashionable items (beware of the skinnies) and everything can be viewed easily. Pretty good value to boot.

arnotts

5. Arnotts

Little bit of a cheat here, because Arnotts really is about 10 stores in one. They have dedicated Diesel (not the Irish one), French Connection, Levi’s and G-Star sections to name but a few. Prices are at the top end, but for selection alone within one store it is hard to beat Arnotts. There is a dedicated GAP store in the basement if you don’t find what you’re looking for elsewhere in the store.
